The first thing to do is to compute the electric power of all the appliances, tools and any other equipment you require to run at the simultaniously. The generator has to able to supply at least that total with it's Running wattage rating. Ordinarily tools and appliances with electric motors add the extra factor of a Surge wattage at startup that can easy double if not triple the regular running wattage burden.
So the best thing is to look at the called for surge watts and make sure to pick out a generator that can cover the additional start wattage. Some Other way of easing the charge would be to not start all the items at the same time.
