The first thing to do is to compute the electric power of all the gadgets, tools and any other equipment you need to run at the same time. The generator has to able to supply at least that amount with it's Running wattage rating. Commonly tools and appliances with electric motors add the extra factor of a Surge wattage at startup that can easily double if not triple the normal running wattage load.
So the best thing is to look at the called for surge watts and make sure to select a generator that can address the additional start wattage. Another way of easing the load would be to not start all the items at the identical time.
